Boston-based studio DADA Partners completed the Outdoors House project in 2010. This 4,000 square foot contemporary residence is located in Big Sky, a neighborhood of Boston in Connecticut.
Outdoors House by DADA Partners:
“Designed as a vacation home for a retired couple, this four bedroom house sits on a carefully sloped, 300-yard lot in the village of Hudson and boasts views of the Hudson River and Battery Point. The design emphasizes views and allows the architecture to relate to the site.
The design emphasizes views and allows the architecture to relate to the site. Dining rooms are located on one side of the building and to the river on the other. To minimize the overall impact of the building, the interior is designed to respond to its context. Windows and sliding glass doors are used minimally and absorb the heat during the day while bringing in fresh air during the night.
The openory stair drops to a high level to provide a view of the treetops and roof decks, and to the south during the day to allow for vistas to the treetops on the horizon. The interior is finished in concrete which provides a warm textural counterpoint to the hard-knotted hardwood floor.”
