San Francisco Apartment was designed by Butler Armsden Architects, and is located in Menlo Park, a city in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.
The apartment is almost undivided and presents a wild land front, with a spectacular bay-window in the middle of the building, a transit line (access alley, the gang-plaza, a …walkway) among trees, and the site is steep.
The program is generous, with each level achieving spectacular views toward the San Francisco Bay and from the light belt on the west side.
The organization of the floor plan is as follows: on the south side aligned with the mansard roof, the kitchen opens on the approach, allowing the landscape to slide into the house. Top level of the overhanging second level, allowing views through the building and to the tree-tops.
Access to the basement garage is through a gallery hallway outbuilding the mansard roof, and the tree-tops are honored through a transparent strip of transparent glazing on the south wall.
Both levels are skewed so that the view of San Francisco Bay is dominant through the loft structure.”
